About Us

The NGO “Global Ecovillage Network Ukraine” was founded in 2018 to unite various types of ecological communities into a single network. The European network GEN Europe served as the inspiration for its creation.

Organization’s Mission: To unite and facilitate the development of ecovillages and other sustainable communities in Ukraine to promote environmental values and the philosophy of conscious living in society.

[More about the vision, mission, and values of our organization]

We unite various types of ecological communities: ecovillages, ancestral estates, art-homesteads, spiritual communities, co-housing and communes, as well as individual sustainable households and environmental initiatives, including “transition towns.”

Ecovillages are groups of people who have consciously moved from cities to rural areas and created a community. They are united by shared values. In most cases, these include environmental care, a healthy lifestyle, and a desire for more sustainable and harmonious interaction with the world.

Among Ukraine’s ecovillagers are representatives of completely different professions. Often, these are people with higher education and successful careers behind them. Some change their field of activity after moving, some continue to work remotely, and others adapt their knowledge to the needs of the local community.

Ecovillages are a way of living together in trust, openness, and the pursuit of becoming better every day; living with love and gratitude for “Mother Earth”; living with thoughts of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; living in the creation of a better world.

Ecovillages represent the daily restoration of rivers, streams, lakes, and water cycles; the restoration of chernozem (black soil), forests, and biodiversity; responsible consumption, and the development of organic and biodynamic farming.

Ecovillages are places for green tourism, recreation, festivals, platforms for invention, experiments with renewable energy, educational seminars, the revival of crafts and authentic cuisine, and an opportunity for people from all over the world to learn about our people’s culture.

Ecovillagers contribute to the development of local communities, the local education system, and the local economy.

With the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, ecovillages became shelters for internally displaced persons and a model of community resilience in times of crisis.

The Global Ecovillage Network Ukraine is part of the Global Ecovillage Network Europe, which in turn is part of the Global Ecovillage Network of the world. The organization operates on national and international stages in the fields of education, advocacy, climate change mitigation, volunteering, implementation of green energy, and more.

We believe that ecovillages are the future of a sustainable Ukraine!
